The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), also known as JEE (Main), is a national-level screening test for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programs in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and comprises two papers.

The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Joint Entrance Examination [JEE (Main)] to the NTA from 2019 onwards.

Paper 1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments. JEE (Main) is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs. Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in the country.

JEE (Main) – 2024 Session 1 for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) will be held between 24
January and 01 February 2024 and Session 2 will be held between 01 April and 15 April 2024. This is being done to ensure that the JEE (Main) – 2024 does not interfere with the Board examinations, which may be held at different times across the States/UTs. Paper 2A and Paper 2B (B. Arch and B. Planning) are also being held twice a year (January and April 2024).

Candidates must have passed class 10 with a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) and class 11 and 12 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects.

JEE (Main) Notification 2024

National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE Main exam 2024 session 1 from January 24 to February 1 and session 2 from April 01 to April 15, 2024. A candidate has the option to apply for one Session or both Sessions (Session 1 and Session 2 of 2024) together and pay the exam fee accordingly.

Submission of the Application Form could be made by the candidate online through the NTA website: https:// jeemain.nta.ac.in/.

The entire application process for JEE (Main) – 2024 is online, including uploading scanned images/documents, payment of fees, and printing of Confirmation Page, Admit Card, etc. Therefore, candidates are not required to send/submit any document(s) including the Confirmation Page to NTA through Post/ Fax/WhatsApp/Email/by Hand.

JEE MAIN Examination Scheme 2024

Mode of Examination

The JEE Main exam is conducted in online mode, except for the drawing section of Paper 2A, which is conducted offline. JEE (Main) – 2024 is being conducted in the following modes:

  • Paper 1 (B.E. /B. Tech.) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only.
  • Paper 2A (B. Arch): Mathematics (Part-I) and Aptitude Test (Part-II) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only and Drawing Test (Part-III) in pen and paper (offline) mode, to be attempted on drawing sheet of A4 size.
  • Paper 2B (B. Planning): Mathematics (Part-I), Aptitude Test (Part-II), and Planning-Based Questions (Part-III) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode only.

Choice of Medium of Question Papers

Medium of the Question Papers: Drawing from the National Education Policy (NEP), the JEE (Main) – 2024 is being conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

The option of language for Question Paper should be exercised carefully while filling up the Application Form online and it cannot be changed at a later stage. Candidates while attempting the QP must choose the same medium as opted while registering in the Application form.

Scheme of Examination

The JEE Main exam pattern comprises two types of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Value Questions (NVQs).

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

  • Each MCQ has four answer choices, of which only one is correct.
  • Candidates are required to select the correct answer for each MCQ.
  • Each correct MCQ answer is awarded 4 marks.
  • Each incorrect MCQ answer is awarded -1 mark.
  • Unanswered MCQs are awarded 0 marks.

Numerical Value Questions (NVQs)

  • NVQs require candidates to enter a numerical value as the answer.
  • Candidates are required to attempt any 5 out of 10 NVQs in each section.
  • Each correct NVQ answer is awarded 4 marks.
  • Incorrect NVQ answers are not awarded any marks.
  • Unanswered NVQs are awarded 0 marks.
