The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has issued a critical announcement for all students preparing for the Self-Paced Module Tests (SPMTs). The Examination Department has notified that due to essential maintenance and software upgradation on the SPMT portal, the online tests will be temporarily suspended for a period of ten days.
The Self-Paced Online Module tests will not be conducted from August 11, 2025, to August 20, 2025.
This scheduled downtime is part of ICAI’s continuous efforts to enhance the security, stability, and functionality of its online examination platform. The maintenance activities are aimed at improving the user experience, streamlining the testing process, and ensuring a robust and reliable system for future examinations.
Resumption of Services
Students are advised that the booking for SPMT slots will resume from August 21, 2025, onwards. During the maintenance period, the portal may be inaccessible for all functions, including registration, slot booking, and test taking.
What is the Self-Paced Module Test (SPMT)?
The Self-Paced Module Test (SPMT) is a mandatory component of the new scheme of education and training for the Chartered Accountancy (CA) course. Under this scheme, students are required to complete four self-paced online modules, designated as Set A, Set B, Set C, and Set D.
- Set A: Corporate and Economic Laws (Mandatory for all students)
- Set B: Strategic Cost & Performance Management (Mandatory for all students)
- Set C: Students must choose one of the following eight papers:
- Paper 1: Advanced Direct Tax Law & International Taxation
- Paper 2: International Taxation
- Paper 3: Advanced Indirect Tax Law
- Paper 4: Public Finance and Government Accounting
- Paper 5: Risk Management
- Paper 6: Financial Services and Capital Markets
- Paper 7: Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code
- Paper 8: International Trade Laws & WTO
- Set D: Students must choose one of the following six papers:
- Paper 1: The Constitution of India & Human Rights
- Paper 2: Management of Health, Safety and Environment
- Paper 3: Advanced Management Accounting
- Paper 4: Forensic Audit
- Paper 5: Valuation
- Paper 6: Public Policy & Corporate Governance
Passing these modules is a prerequisite for a student to be eligible to appear for the final CA examination. The tests are conducted online and are designed to be flexible, allowing students to study and appear for the tests at their own pace, once they have completed their articled training.
