CTET Eligibility Criteria Jan 2024: Minimum Qualification

Minimum qualification is Class 12 for appearing in CTET Paper-1 and Graduation with at least 50% marks for submit exam form of both papers of CTET 2024 exams.

CTET Eligibility Criteria 2024-2025: The candidate wish to appear in Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) have to satisfy minimum qualification requirement. Otherwise, he/ she shall be personally responsible in case he/she is not eligible to apply for CTET as per the given eligibility criteria.

The CTET eligibility criteria are framed by the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education). Minimum qualification is different for appearing in Paper-1 and Paper-2 of CTET examinations as prescribed by CBSE on official website ctet.nic.in.

The Ministry of Education, Govt. of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the CTET January 2024 to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi. Thus, CBSE is the Examining Body for conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test on behalf of the Central Government.

Qualifying Examination to Appear in CTET

National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has released a official CTET Notification stating the revised CTET eligibility criteria for candidates who are pursuing Teacher Training Course (TTC).

Qualifying Examination: It means the examination on the result of which the candidate becomes eligible to apply for Central Teacher Eligibility Test to be held in the year 2024-2025.

In other words, you have to satisfy eligibility criteria before submission of online application form for next CTET exams to be held in the month of Jan 2024.

CTET minimum qualification: The basic requirement is that you passed senior secondary or graduation with at least 50% aggregate marks and completed relevant teacher training program.

  • Passed Senior Secondary or Class 12 exams with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appeared in the final year of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed); or
  • Passed Class-XII exams with a minimum of 50% marks and passed or appeared in the final year of four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); or
  • Post-Graduation with a minimum 55% marks or equivalent grade and three-year integrated BEd – MEd.

CTET Eligibility Criteria 2024

The persons possessing minimum qualifications for the teaching staff in accordance with the following are eligible for appearing in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test:-

  • National Council for Teacher Education (Determination of Minimum Qualifications for Persons to be recruited as Education Teachers and Physical Education Teachers in Pre-Primary, Primary, Upper Primary, Secondary, Senior Secondary or Intermediate Schools or Colleges) Regulations as amended and notified from time to time.
  • Minimum qualifications laid down in the Recruitment Rules for the teachers by the Appropriate Government where the school is situated or the Recruitment Rules for the teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan or Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

Note: If a candidate has been allowed to appear in the CTET it does not imply that the candidate’s eligibility has been verified. The eligibility shall be finally verified, by the concerned recruiting agency/ appointing authority.

Candidate must possess Minimum Educational Qualifications for becoming a teacher for Class I to V and VI to VIII.

CTET Paper-1 Educational Qualification for Primary Teachers

Minimum Educational Qualifications for becoming teacher for Classes I-V: In order to be qualified for being a primary teacher of classes 1 to 5, applicants must meet any one of the given CTET eligibility criteria in terms of education qualification:

  1. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education; OR
  2. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002; OR
  3. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); OR
  4. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2 years Diploma in Education (Special Education); OR
  5. Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor or Education (B.Ed).

Who has acquired the qualification or Bachelor of Education from NCTE recognised institution shall be considered for appointment as a teacher in classes I to V provided the person so appointed as a teacher shall mandatorily undergo a six month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognized by the NCTE, Within two Year of such appointment as primary teacher.

CTET Paper-2 Educational Qualification for Elementary Teachers

Minimum Educational Qualifications for becoming teacher for Classes VI-VIII: In order to be qualified for being a primary teacher of classes 6 to 8, applicants must meet any one of the given CTET eligibility criteria in terms of education qualification:

  1. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 years Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed); OR
  2. Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4 years B.A/ B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/ B.Sc.Ed; OR
  3. Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known); OR
  4. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in one year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed); OR
  5. Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard; OR
  6. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education); OR
  7. Any candidate having qualified B.Ed. Programme recognized by the NCTE is eligible to appear in TET/CTET.

A person who is pursuing any of the teacher education courses (recognized by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) Specified in the NCTE Notification dated 29th July, 2012 shall be eligible for appearing in the CTET.

Relaxation shall be provided up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum educational qualification for eligibility to the candidates belonging to reserved categories, such as SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled.

Sir, I have just completed my Class 12. May I eligible for CTET?

Yes. If you passed Class-XII with at least 50% then you may appear in Paper-1 of CTET. Paper-I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes I to V.

The minimum age limit for appearing in CTET 2023 is 18 years. But there is no upper age limit for CTET examinations. That means a candidate belonging to any age may apply for CTET.

Only citizen of India may fill up the CTET 2023 exam application form.

What is the maximum number of attempts for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test?

There is no limit on the number of CTET attempts. A candidate can give the CTET exam as many times as he/she wants. In other words, you may give CTET exams more than once to improve your CTET score.

Who will verify CTET Eligibility?

The concerned recruiting agency or appointing authority will finally verify the eligibility. Hence, a candidate allowed to appear in CTET does not mean that his/her eligibility has been verified.
