How to Apply for TNPSC Group 2 and 2A 2025

Candidates must apply online via the Commission’s website, www.tnpscexams.in. One-time registration is required before filling out the online application. An application correction window will be available for three days (August 18, 2025, to August 20, 2025) after the submission deadline for editing details. No modifications will be allowed after this period.

Follow these step-by-step instructions carefully to ensure a smooth application process for TNPSC Group II & IIA Services Examination 2025:

Step 1: One-Time Registration (OTR) (Mandatory)
Visit the TNPSC official website: www.tnpscexams.in
Click on One-Time Registration (OTR) and complete your registration by providing basic details, uploading your recent passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format, and paying the OTR fee of โ‚น150 (valid for 5 years).

Step 2: Login with Your Credentials
After successful OTR, use your User ID and Password to log in to the TNPSC portal.

Step 3: Fill the Online Application Form
Under the “Latest Notifications” section, select Apply Now for Combined Civil Services Examination-II (Group II & IIA).
Fill in all required details accurately such as personal, educational, communication details, and post preferences.

Step 4: Upload Required Documents
Ensure clear, legible scans of required documents:

  • SSLC, HSC, Degree Certificates
  • Caste / Community / Disability / Widow Certificates if applicable
  • Latest Photograph and Signature (as per TNPSC guidelines)

Step 5: Pay the Application Fee
Pay the application fee online through Net Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card / UPI:

Eligibility Conditions

Age Limit (as on 01.07.2025)

  • For ‘Others’ (General Category):
    • Group II Services: Minimum age 18-26 years, maximum age 32-42 years depending on the post. For Probation Officer, minimum age is 22/26 and maximum age is 32/42. For Forester, minimum age is 21 and maximum is 32. For Sub Registrar, Assistant Inspector, Junior Employment Officer, Assistant Section Officer, and Special Branch Assistant, the minimum age is 18 and maximum is 32.
    • Group IIA Services: For all posts (except Executive Officer, Grade III), minimum age is 18 and maximum age is 32. For Executive Officer, Grade III, minimum age is 25 and maximum age is 37.
    • Age concessions apply for Persons with Benchmark Disability, Ex-Servicemen, and Destitute Widows.
  • For Reserved Categories (BC(OBCM)s, BCMs, MBCs/DCs, SCs, SC(A)s, and STs):
    • Group II Services: Minimum age 18-26 years. No maximum age limit for most posts, meaning candidates should not have completed 60 years of age as on 01.07.2025 or at the time of selection/appointment. For Forester, the maximum age is 37.
    • Group IIA Services: For all posts (except Executive Officer, Grade III), minimum age is 18, and there is no maximum age limit. For Executive Officer, Grade III, minimum age is 25, and there is no maximum age limit.

Educational and Technical Qualification

Candidates must possess the prescribed educational and technical qualifications on the date of notification. The degree qualification must be obtained in the order of SSLC + HSC/Diploma or equivalent + Undergraduate Degree.

  • Group II Services:
    • Assistant Inspector, Junior Employment Officer (Differently Abled & Non-Differently Abled), Probation Officer, Sub Registrar, Grade-II, Special Branch Assistant: A degree from any University recognized by the University Grants Commission. Specific preferences are given for certain degrees or diplomas (e.g., Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, B.L. Degree).
    • Assistant Section Officer: A Master’s degree; or a Bachelor’s degree and a Bachelor of General Law (B.G.L) degree; or a Bachelor’s degree with I class in any one of the parts.
    • Forester: A Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering in specific subjects (e.g., Agriculture, Botany, Chemistry, Engineering, Forestry) from a UGC recognized University.
  • Group IIA Services:
    • For most posts, a degree from any University recognized by the University Grants Commission is required.
    • Specific preferences apply for certain posts, such as candidates who have passed the Government Technical Examination in Book-Keeping by Higher/Senior Grade for Supervisor/Junior Superintendent. For Executive Officer, Grade III, preferences are given to employees of Religious Institutions with 5+ years of service, or those holding a B.A. in Indian Culture and Religious Institutions Management or a Diploma in Epigraphy and Archaeology.

Medical and Physical Standards

  • Physical Standards for Forester: Specific height and chest measurements are required for male, female, and third-gender candidates. A certificate of physical standards from a Medical Officer is required.
  • Visual Standards:
    • Standard-I: Probation Officer, Forester.
    • Standard-II or better (Colour blindness and night blindness are disqualifications): Assistant Inspector.
    • Standard-III or better: All other Group II and IIA posts (except Probation Officer, Forester, and Assistant Inspector).
    • Candidates with defective vision must produce an Eye Fitness Certificate.

Knowledge in Tamil

Candidates must possess adequate knowledge of Tamil on the date of notification. This can be demonstrated by passing SSLC/HSC/Degree with Tamil as a language, studying in Tamil medium, or passing the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil conducted by TNPSC.

Restrictions on Applying for the Examination

Candidates not belonging to reserved categories, who have 5 years or more of service in Government of India or State/Union Territory service, are not eligible.

Only persons professing the Hindu religion are eligible for Audit Inspector and Executive Officer, Grade III posts in the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.

Persons with benchmark disabilities are not eligible for certain posts like Probation Officer, Special Branch Assistant, and Forester.

Preliminary Examination (Combined Civil Services Examination โ€“ II)

Important Notes for Main Examination:

  • Answer sheets of Paper II will only be evaluated if candidates secure minimum qualifying marks in Paper I.
  • Appearance in both papers of the Main Examination is compulsory.
  • Differently-abled candidates can be exempted from writing Paper I (Tamil Eligibility Test) by furnishing required details in the online application.

Ranking Procedure

The merit list is based on the total marks secured in Paper II of the Main Examination. In case of equal marks, candidates with higher qualifications, then those senior in age, and then those who applied earlier will be given preference in that order.

Examination Instructions

OMR Based Examination: Candidates must carry only a black ink ballpoint pen, a photocopy of ID, and the hall ticket.

Computer Based Test (CBT): Registration starts one hour before the exam. No computer knowledge is required, only mouse operation is sufficient. Candidates will receive a username and password to log in. Questions are displayed one by one, and answers are selected with the mouse. Answers must be saved by clicking “Save and Next”. Candidates can recheck and correct answers before submission.

Language of Answers: Candidates must write answers entirely in Tamil or entirely in English. Technical words that cannot be translated are an exception.
