1. IIT Patna (Leader in Bihar)
- Performance: IIT Patna continues to be the only institution from Bihar to feature in the top 100 of the Overall category.
- 2025 Highlights: The institute saw a remarkable jump in the 2025 rankings, moving up to Rank 36 in the Overall category (up from #73 in 2024). It consistently ranks highly in the Engineering category as well.
2. AIIMS Patna
- Performance: AIIMS Patna is the premier medical institute in the state. While it secured a strong position in the Medical category, it was placed in the 101-150 rank band for the Overall category in 2025.

3. NIT Patna
- Performance: A key technical institute, NIT Patna maintained its position in the 101-150 rank band (Overall). It is also ranked separately within the Engineering and Architecture categories, where it typically performs well (often appearing in the Top 30 for Architecture).
4. Central University of South Bihar (CUSB)
- Performance: Located in Gaya, CUSB is the top-ranked non-engineering university in the state, featuring in the 151-200 rank band under the University category.
- Growth: It has shown consistent performance in the Law and Pharmacy categories as well.
5. Sector-Specific Leaders
Several institutions dominate their specific niches despite not always appearing in the unified “Overall” top list:
- Management: IIM Bodh Gaya represents Bihar in the top tier of management schools (ranked #33 in 2024, maintaining strong standing in 2025).
- Law: CNLU Patna is the state’s primary representative in the National Law rankings.
