IOCL Apprentice Eligibility Criteria 2026
Educational Qualification – General Rules
- Candidates must have already passed the prescribed qualification as on 31-01-2026.
- Result awaited candidates are NOT eligible.
- Class XII / Graduate / Diploma must be from a recognized Board/University/Institute as regular full-time course.
- Minimum aggregate marks:
- 50% for General/EWS/OBC
- 45% for SC and PwBD candidates (only against reserved seats)
- Where CGPA/OGPA/Letter Grade is awarded, equivalent percentage must be provided as per institute norms and supported by a certificate during document verification.
- For ITI (Fitter), only regular full-time ITI courses recognized by NCVET/SCVT are acceptable.
- Only the specified branches/subjects against each trade will be considered. No “equivalent” qualification will be accepted.
Not Eligible – Higher/Other Qualifications
- Candidates with higher professional qualifications such as:
- B.E./B.Tech
- MBA
- CA
- LLB
- MCA
- Or similar/equivalent higher qualifications
who have completed them on or before joining apprenticeship, are not eligible.
- Candidates who have obtained qualification through part-time/correspondence/distance learning mode are not eligible.
- Candidates who have completed 5 years or more after acquiring prescribed qualification (as on 31-01-2026) are not eligible.
- Engineering graduates/diploma or vocational certificate holders with 1 year or more job experience after qualification are not eligible.
Candidates with Previous Apprenticeship
- Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training in a different trade/discipline can apply, subject to:
- Minimum 1-year gap between completion of previous apprenticeship and 31-01-2026, or
- No gap needed if previous contract was terminated due to employer’s failure, or
- Minimum 3 months gap if previous contract was terminated by apprentice due to health, financial hardship, relocation, etc. (no waiting period for women candidates).
- Preference will be given to candidates applying for apprenticeship for the first time.
- If previous apprenticeship was terminated due to apprentice’s failure to follow contract terms, such candidates are not eligible.
- Selected candidates must provide an Affidavit (Annexure-I) confirming compliance with eligibility conditions.
Single Trade Application Rule
- A candidate with B.Sc. (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry) can apply for only one among:
- Code 101 (Attendant Operator – Chemical) or
- Code 108 (Secretarial Assistant)
- A B.Com candidate can apply for only one among:
- Code 108 (Secretarial Assistant) or
- Code 109 (Accountant)

Reservation Policy – IOCL Panipat Apprentice
- Reservation for SC, OBC (NCL), EWS and PwBD is as per Government of India / Haryana State guidelines.
- If suitable candidates are not available in a reserved category for a particular trade, vacancies may be filled by candidates of other categories as per rules and merit.
- PwBD reservation is horizontal, applied across identified trades/disciplines.
IOCL Panipat Apprentice Selection Process 2026
One of the biggest advantages of this recruitment is that there is no written exam.
Selection Methodology
- Merit-based shortlisting on the basis of percentage of marks in the prescribed qualification:
- Aggregate of all subjects and all semesters/years will be considered.
- Preference will be given to candidates undergoing apprenticeship for the first time.
- In case of tie in percentage:
- Candidate with earlier date of birth (older) will rank higher.
- If date of birth is also the same, candidate with higher matric (Class X) percentage will rank higher.
- PwBD candidates who avail relaxation in qualifying marks will be considered only against reserved PwBD seats.
- Filling of seats is at the discretion of management and some seats may remain vacant if sufficient suitable candidates are not available.
Document Verification & Medical Fitness
Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates (as per merit and trade-wise seats) will be called for Document Verification. Candidates must carry original documents with self-attested photocopies, including:
- Matriculation (10th) certificate (for DOB proof)
- Class XII mark sheet
- Semester/year-wise mark sheets of ITI/Diploma/Graduation, as applicable
- Final ITI/Diploma/Degree certificate
- CGPA/OGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate (if applicable)
- Certificate from institute mentioning date of result declaration, mode of study (regular full-time), and conduct (if date not on mark sheet)

Pre-Engagement Medical Examination
- Provisionally selected candidates must undergo pre-engagement medical examination as per Apprentices Act guidelines and IOCL standards.
- Only those found medically fit will be finally engaged as apprentices.
- PwBD candidates will be examined as per the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Stipend, Benefits and Other Conditions
- Stipend:
- Paid as per Apprentices Act, 1961/1973 and Apprentices Rules, 1992 (as amended), and IOCL guidelines.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Apprentices under codes 101, 102, 104, 105, 106 & 107 will be provided one pair of safety shoes and a helmet (returnable after training).
- Accommodation/HRA:
- No company accommodation or HRA will be provided.
- Leave & Holidays:
- General Leave: 32 days (@ 8 days per quarter, including medical leave)
- Casual Leave: 12 days per calendar year (pro-rata)
- Holidays: As observed in the establishment where apprentice is posted
- Unused leave lapses at the end of apprenticeship.
- Insurance:
- Apprentices will be covered under suitable Accident Insurance.
- Discipline:
- Apprentices are governed by Certified Standing Orders applicable to workmen at the unit.
- Period Extension:
- Apprenticeship period may be extended in specific cases as per Apprentices Rules, 1992.
No Job Guarantee:
After completion of apprenticeship, IOCL has no obligation to offer regular employment. Apprentices cannot claim permanent job as a right.

Q1. Is there any written exam for IOCL Panipat Apprentice 2025-26?
No. There is no written exam. Selection is purely based on marks in qualifying examination and other eligibility conditions.
