About SAMEER-CEM Chennai

SAMEER is an autonomous R&D institution under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. Originally founded in 1984 as an offshoot of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, SAMEER operates five centres across India — Mumbai (headquarters at IIT Bombay), Chennai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, and Guwahati.

The Chennai centre (SAMEER-CEM) specializes in electromagnetics, EMI/EMC engineering, antenna design, thermal management, and 5G/6G systems research. It is a premier facility involved in mission-critical national programs, offering world-class laboratories and mentorship by government scientists. Working at SAMEER-CEM provides exposure to advanced hardware and software development tools used in defence, communications, and radar applications.

Work Domains and Career Opportunities

Selected candidates will work in one of three high-demand technical domains:

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)

This domain involves the design and development of advanced control systems, communication systems, and radar systems. Candidates get hands-on experience with embedded systems, FPGA-based hardware design, application development in Qt and Keil, MATLAB & SIMULINK modelling, and field-deployable system development. This builds a strong foundation in electronic system design for defence and communication applications.

Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility (EMI/EMC)

EMI/EMC is a specialized field experiencing massive demand across all electronics and electrical industry sectors. SAMEER-CEM houses world-class EMC laboratories where candidates learn international compliance requirements, evaluation methodologies, and troubleshooting of complex EMI issues under the guidance of experienced scientists. This experience makes candidates industry-ready for a domain where global demand is rapidly expanding.

Mechanical and Thermal Engineering

This domain focuses on the thermal management of electronic systems. Candidates work in world-class laboratories, gaining practical experience that significantly boosts professional value and opens doors to top-tier roles in the global electronics industry.
