Section wise and skill wise weightage of marks for CA Foundation Paper 4 (Business Economics and Business & Commercial Knowledge) for May/Nov 2023 Exam.

CA Foundation weightage of BEBCK May 2023: CA Institute revised the weightage of marks for CA Foundation Paper-4 for May/June 2023 exams. CA Foundation students may download chapter wise marks allocation for Business Economics and Business & Commercial Knowledge paper.

The Board of Studies (BoS) of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI) assigned weightage of marks to CA Foundation course. You may now prepare for both theory and practical question of CA Foundation based on the analysis of each chapters.

ICAI New Course 2023: ICAI CA Foundation New Syllabus is expected to be applicable from 1st July 2023. The first exam under CA Foundation new syllabus would be held in Nov 2023 term of examinations. CA Institute brings new syllabus for the CA Foundation Course. The name of Paper-4 has been changed to “Business Economics” from “Business Economics & Business & Commercial Knowledge”.

Each subject divided into various topics grouped into sections and weightage range allocated to these sections. The question paper would take into consideration the weightage range assigned to different sections.

Section wise Weightage of Marks for Paper 4

Marks weightage for the Paper-4 Business Economics and Business & Commercial Knowledge (BEBCK) of CA Foundation course examination to be held in May 2023 and onwards under New Scheme of Education and Training.

Following are the detail section wise weightage of marks assigned to BEBCK May 2023 examinations:

Foundation Paper 4A: Business Economics (60 Marks)

Section-I (Weightage 15%-20%) i.e. 9-12 Marks

  1. Introduction to Business Economics
    • (i) Meaning of Business Economics
    • (ii) Objectives of Business Firm- Profit Maximization, Sales Maximization, Growth Maximization.

Section-II (Weightage 35%-40%) i.e. 21-24 Marks

  1. Theory of Demand and Supply
    • (i) Meaning and determinants of demand, Law of demand and Elasticity of demand ─ Price, income and cross elasticity
    • (ii) Theory of consumer’s behaviour – Marshallian approach and Indifference curve approach
    • (iii) Meaning and determinants of supply, Law of supply and Elasticity of supply.
    • (iv) Demand Forecasting
  2. Theory of Production and Cost
    • (i) Meaning and Factors of production
    • (ii) Laws of Production – The Law of Variable proportions and Laws of Returns to Scale, Producer’s equilibrium
    • (iii) Concepts of Costs ─ Short-run and long-run costs, Average and marginal costs, Total, fixed and variable costs.

Section-III (Weightage 25%-30%) i.e. 15-18 Marks

  1. Price Determination in Different Markets
    • (i) Various forms of markets – Perfect Competition, Monopoly, Monopolistic Competition and Oligopoly
    • (ii) Price determination in these markets.

Section-IV (Weightage 15%-20%) i.e. 9-12 Marks

  1. Business Cycles
    • (i) Meaning
    • (ii) Phases
    • (iii) Features
    • (iv) Causes.

Foundation Paper 4B: Business & Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks)

Section-I (Weightage 15%-18%) i.e. 6-7 Marks

  1. Introduction to Business
    • (i) Nature of Business, Profession and Employment
    • (ii) Objectives of Business
    • (iii) Economic and Non-Economic Activities
    • (iv) Forms of Business Organizations

Section-II (Weightage 15%-18%) i.e. 6-7 Marks

  1. Business Environment
    • (i) Micro and Macro Environment
    • (ii) Elements of Micro Environment – Consumers/customers, Competitors, Organization, Market, Suppliers, Intermediaries
    • (iii) Elements of Macro Environment – Demographic, Economic, Political-legal, Socio-cultural, Technological, Global Environment

Section-III (Weightage 15%-20%) i.e. 6-8 Marks

  1. Business Organizations: Overview of selected Indian and Global Companies.

Section-IV (Weightage 15%-18%) i.e. 6-7 Marks

  1. Government Policies for Business Growth: Policies creating conducive business environment such as Liberalization, Privatization, Foreign Direct Investment.

Section-V (Weightage 15%-18%) i.e. 6-7 Marks

  1. Organizations Facilitating Business
    • (i) Indian Regulatory Bodies – RBI, SEBI, CCI, IRDA.
    • (ii) Indian Development Banks – NABARD.

Section-VI (Weightage 15%-18%) i.e. 6-7 Marks

  1. Common Business Terminologies
    • (i) Finance and Stock & Commodity Markets Terminology
    • (ii) Marketing Terminology
    • (iii) Banking Terminology
    • (iv) Other Business Terminology

In paper 4, there are two sections. Section 4A is Business Economics (60 Marks) and Section 4B is Business and Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks). 24-30 marks theory questions and 30-36 marks practical questions shall be in Section 4A. Whereas, all questions of Section 4B shall be theory based.
